The following documents represent data used in the autoethnographic research of my 50-year career in nursing. I will be uploading more over time so that researchers and others who read my text and related articles will be able to review the evidence.
I hope nurses will find some of the evidence from my various practices and related work inspiring. With enough determination and creative thinking, you can achieve remarkable things! Don't be afraid to think as far out of the box as possible. I'm here to help you and cheer you on!
My clinical practices were rarely typical. In 1982, when I graduated from my NP program at the University of Rochester under Dean Ford, there were no laws recognizing NP practice. In some ways, that provided me with the opportunity to be innovative. The stories behind these snapshots, can be found in my Autoethnography featured on the Home page.
A move to Minnesota created a whole new set of challenges and opportunities. NP's could practice but only if they had an agreement with a supervising physician. Luckily, I found some enlightened docs who agreed to work with me. But I didn't want a medical practice. I wanted one that was grounded in Nursing. I had some wonderful successes, including getting the first managed care contract for an NP in Minnesota! If you want to know how I did all this, check out my autoethnography shown on the Home page.
