This study explores the possible multisystem impact of a rare DNA2 variant in the context of chronic symptoms suggestive of mitochondrial bioenergetic vulnerability.
Rather than claiming causality, the study integrates patient narrative, clinical findings, genetic data, functional assessments, and scientific literature to generate biologically plausible hypotheses. Its central contribution is methodological: it shows how a patient’s longitudinal lived experience can be treated as meaningful data and integrated with empirical evidence.
This matters because rare genetic variants, especially variants of uncertain significance, are difficult to interpret when symptoms are fragmented across clinical specialties. A mixed-methods, patient-centered approach may help reveal patterns that are often missed in brief clinical encounters and traditional research designs.
