If You Are New to Academic Nursing - This Is For You!

Nursing Professor Group Mentoring Project

  • You have your first faculty position in nursing.
  • It’s exciting and perhaps a bit intimidating.
  • It’s not a clinical arena where you feel comfortable.
  • The organizational culture is different.
  • The expectations are different.
  • You want to be seen as competent but you’re not feeling very confident.

If this sounds like you, then keep reading!

This Fall, I’m starting a FREE Nursing Professor Group Mentoring Project!

Once a week, for 12 weeks, I’ll host a Zoom gathering for 8 nurses who are new to their positions as nurse educators in an academic setting.

The academic environment can be very stressful. There are pressures that are very different from those in the clinical arena. But it can also be very exciting and rewarding!  To achieve success, you need a good start - and that's what this project aims to do!

This project begins on Sept 16 and is limited to 8 participants.  There is no fee -  just a commitment to stay involved for the 12 weeks, so the group process is not disrupted. This is a caring project. Nurses caring for each other.

Why am I doing this?

I can’t stand by any longer and do nothing. There aren't enough faculty in most academic settings to provide this extra support and guidance. The literature indicates that new academics are at high risk for burnout. But with the right support and mentoring, you can succeed!

I have the time, experience, and wisdom to help my colleagues who are just starting their careers. You can learn from all my mistakes, and also my successes, over the last 50 years – 35 of which were in academia. I’ve seen it all.  I know what works and what doesn’t. I understand the organizational culture of academic nursing – something I wish I better understood when I first started.

Your participation in this group is confidential and group members will be expected to adhere to this policy.

If you're interested, let's meet over Zoom

The Beatles and Joe Cocker got it right - you can get by with a little help from your friends :).

Imagine 7 of your nursing colleagues together with you in a Zoom meeting, sharing experiences.
